Size: 700ML Proof: 109.2 (54.6% ABV) Origin: Scotland Distillery: Caol Ila Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular is reserved for rather well-aged expressions, and this one from the Caol Ila Distillery certainly fits the bill. It was distilled back in September 1980, and was bottled 40 years later in June 2021! For four decades, it rested in a single refill hogshead, before eventually being bottled at cask strength with an outturn of only 206 bottles. Nose: One the nose, expect immediately oceanic West Coast of Scotland character, with enticing yet subtle phenols coming through. Palate: The palate reveals leather, malted barley, spices and a honey-glazed smoked meat quality. Finish: The finish is exceptional, with more peat smoke, dried citric fruits and oak bonfire embers.
